● +20 years non-stop programming ● V8 (Node.js/Chromium) enthusiast ● I'm a self-taught programmer since 2001, when I was 14 years old. I professionally work as a developer for 13 years now, when I created my first company. I've been part in tons of projects of multiple kinds, using low-level languages like assembly or the good ol' C, or high-level languages like Java, Visual Basic, C#, JavaScript, Ruby, ActionScript or PHP, although the last 10 years I'm focusing more in JavaScript and its ecosystem, so when I discovered Node.js it was a blast for me. Almost all my projects are focused around Node.js since then. I also LOVE teaching, so if you want to improve your skills don't hesitate to get in touch :-)

I am an experienced, committed software engineer who continually seeks clean, elegant solutions to business challenges. My lifelong passion for technology drives me to proactively expand my horizons, constantly exploring and evaluating new languages, platforms, frameworks, tools, and best practices and applying them in my work to produce truly awesome results. I also believe that a fundamental prerequisite of highly successful teams is the open, honest interchange of ideas, feedback, and experience, culminating in an environment of personal and professional growth for all involved. It is in this spirit that I offer to share my experience with others as a CodeMentor.

I am no longer taking new students for mentoring sessions. However, you are welcome to ask me questions of any depth in chat and I'll answer as I can. I am an assembly language expert, having mentored recently in MIPS, LC-3&4, MARIE, PEP/8&9, others. I will explain the concepts and fundamentals that you need to know. For example: how the processor works; how assembly language works; analogies for higher level languages concepts in assembly language; methodology for problem solving. While I do explanations, I don't do homework, assignments, projects, tests, quizzes, exams (practice or otherwise) or freelance. The help I offer is about concepts: knowledge of how processors work, how assembly language works, how we accomplish the same thing in assembly as in other languages, and how programmers look at problems. So, ask me something about what you want to learn: what you don't know or what you are confused about that will help you in making progress on your assignment/project or upcoming test.

A freelance iOS(Swift), Android app developer and a backend engineer in Java and Ruby on Rails. I have worked as a full time backend engineer for 5+ years and picked up freelancing for the past 1 year to work on app development and broaden my spectrum. I have found this very satisfying. I have worked as a backend developer for 5+years and have recently fallen in love with iOS development. Apart from this, I also work on android. As a backend developer, worked on Java, Ruby on Rails, mongodb, postgresql, mysql, redis, memcached, aerospike and many other technologies for day to day devops operations. I have been continuously using github and bitbucket for repository managment and AWS, digitalocean and heroku for deployment purposes. My app development experience includes using location services, fabric framework, and also persistence using coredata. I use gradle and cocoapods for builds. I use diawi automated apis for distribution. Also, I use gym, digits, crashlytics extensively.

I've been working with UNIX-like systems (Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, Mac OS X and many more) for about 20 years, both as a hobby, as my field of study and as a profession. I run my own company in Sweden in UNIX consultation, education and hosting. I've also written five books about programming and Linux. The first book is about Python. The second book is about C programming in Linux, macOS, BSD and Solaris. The third book is about Linux system administration. The forth one is about Linux system programming (the only one in English). The fifth one is about Docker. I prefer to do freelance jobs. I can also do sessions though, but keep in mind that I prefer to use text chat only, no voice.

“James took the time to look at my Power Automate flow and work out what the issue was with the specific phrasing that was stopping it from working. Not only am I really pleased with the results of our troubleshooting sessions, but he was a joy to talk to and was patient with me throughout.“

“Today was the first time meeting Bilal. It was more an introductory session to get to know each other than a mentoring session. He was very polite throughout the whole session and was not pushy at all with trying to sell himself or his services. I'm still considering who to take as a mentor, but he is definitely in consideration. Thank you for chatting with me today!“
