I'm a full stack software engineer, technical writer and computer science educator. I enjoy testing, debugging, refactoring, application design, maintaining projects and teaching. My primary technologies are JavaScript, React, Express (PERN stack), Playwright, Puppeteer, Python, Flask and C. See my [Stack Overflow tags](https://stackoverflow.com/users/6243352/ggorlen?tab=tags) for more technologies ordered roughly by my interest and experience. In addition to Stack Overflow, I'm active on [Code Review Stack Exchange](https://codereview.stackexchange.com/users/171065/ggorlen). Feel free to peek at a few of these reviews to get a sense of the insights I can offer your code. For further information, visit my [Codementor FAQ](https://ggorlen.glitch.me/codementor). I'm a self taught developer, and ever since my first job, given enough time at a workplace I've always become the guy who people go to when they're stuck, and I've enjoyed doing the same on various online communities. I've always found those interactions very rewarding, I find it much easier to apply myself in a focused way to helping other people solve their problems. I really believe in the "teach a man to fish" cliche. If you are a student or need help working on open source, I offer a 50% rate reduction. Note that I will not solve exercises/assignments for you, I am only willing to help you to solve them yourself. Finally, I suggest you check out this great write up by Adam Goldman, another mentor on this site, which has some great tips on how better utilize this service https://www.codementor.io/adamgold/get-the-most-out-of-your-session-5c5iho6ns

I am a long-time [open-source contributor and Linux enthusiast](https://www.archlinux.org/people/developer-fellows/#schiv). In the past I spent most of my time staring at black screens with green text scrolling endlessly for hours and days. I am now a practitioner of [Knowledge Science](https://www.infoworld.com/article/3448577/who-should-be-responsible-for-your-data-the-knowledge-scientist.html), an emerging subdiscipline of Computer Science allied with the goals of [explainable](https://www.forbes.com/sites/forbestechcouncil/2019/12/30/explainable-ai-the-rising-role-of-knowledge-scientists/#395937a2603f), ["semantic"](https://www.poolparty.biz/semantic-ai/) artificial intelligence (AI). With a background in the [Semantic Web](https://www.dataversity.net/semantic-web-and-semantic-technology-trends-in-2020/#) and traditional [symbolic AI](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knowledge_representation_and_reasoning), I am a graph database specialist fully invested in data modelling and programming with semantic technologies. While as a Computer Scientist I am inclined on research and development (R&D), nothing gives me more satisfaction than building or leading a software technology project from inception to production, especially so at the bleeding-edge. I regret that I may be time-constrained, but you are welcome to check in with me for quick consultations.

“Solid guy. Has a clear understanding of C++ fundamentals and was patient and unafraid of helping with a rather subtle C++ bug that was also part of an algorithm TOO complex to explain in a single session. Meaning he had to help me debug WITHOUT understanding what the code actually does. Despite these obstacles he was able to give me not one but TWO possible approaches to solve the problem. And he managed to do so within 45 minutes of us discussing together (keeping my learning costs down for a problem that easily could've been very expensive for a run-of-the-mill tutor to deal with). While i'm not a C++ expert, I am a strong python3 dev, and I would gladly have hired Scott to work on one of my teams back when I was in the industry and strongly encourage you to book a session with him if you are on the fence.“

“Very helpful, he noticed that my basics were weak and took the time to go over them with me, and then proceeded to help me with what I was stuck on. Very kind, and will answer any questions you have. He teaches at a pace that is comfortable for you and is very passionate about the subject.“

“Excellent. Patricio tailored the tutoring to my goals and came up with a project plan that covers all of the things I wanted out of mentorship. He has extensive knowledge of both practice and theory - writing code and the principles of CS/best practices/design patterns, and he's excellent in communicating difficult concepts. His work ethic is terrific as well: he provides detailed comments on code, comes up with illuminating assignments, and creates and delivers informative lessons.“
