Hi I'm Brian! I'm a full stack developer turned engineering manager with 10 years of experience in software engineering. My biggest strength as a mentor is in the way I engage with fellow developers. While I love digging into technical challenges, I have found that a **positive attitude** and a **human-centric approach to problem-solving** are my sharpest tools. I hope to build a solid foundation of trust between us, so we can make the most of our time together. I will _never_ judge you. That means you can level with me. You've never written a unit test. Awesome, let's write one together. You've never heard of transaction isolation levels. Great, let's talk about what those are! I know I can help you because I help others all the time. Let's get to work! ----- Who am I, and what have I done? I have worked with tiny companies running their applications on a toaster and I've worked with fortune 500 companies managing hundreds of applications in production. I've worked across many technology stacks: ASP.NET / C#, React / Vue / Angular / JavaScript / TypeScript / Node.js, and even a bit of Laravel / PHP. I've written queries and stored procedures, tuned indexes, and administered SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL databases. I've deployed many production systems to on-premise and cloud environments. I've set up production CI/CD systems using Github Actions, TeamCity, Octopus Deploy, and Concourse. I've used the alphabet soup of AWS services... EC2, ECS, S3, WAF, SQS, SES, SNS, and RDS to name a few. Anyway, I've seen a lot!

I am a certified DevOps engineer and cloud architect with a passion for automation and early adopter of the Cloud. I have started my journey in IT with a strong foundation in programming and operating systems support and administration, (Linux and windows) before the term DevOps existed. I have worked on multiple platforms and technologies from Java to PHP, Python Scala to .NET. Built and supported full pipelines (green/blue deployment) from code to production and delivery. I have worked in multiple small startups companies to the multi-billion dollar gaming industry. My mantra is if you have to do it more than once, then "Automate it".

“Umair helped me architect a web app in Next.Js with child applications in different frameworks. He showed in-depth knowledge of both Next and native javascript technologies that could help smooth the transition. He also had great recommendations for the backend services as well. He had opinions built on real-world experience that would steer me away from over-engineering while also provide the most powerful functionality for the app. Highly recommend!“

“I had a fantastic mentoring session with Dejan. He demonstrated a deep understanding of Data Structures and Algorithms and, more importantly, shared valuable advice on how to effectively present my knowledge to the interviewer throughout the interview. I particularly appreciated his advice on the importance of jotting down notes about different approaches to solving the problem and the trade-offs of each, and how that could help me stay organized and make me stand out as an interviewee.“

“Brian is an excellent mentor for LC style prep. He listened to my initial requests and we aligned on specific areas where I needed to specialize and improve within DS&A. He laid out a clear roadmap for how to reach my target skill level. During sessions, Brian applied through discipline in order to force me to figure out solutions like during an interview. Lastly, Brian responded to my performance in these sessions with excellent feedback and guided recommendations for the next step. A+ and would not have received my target offer without him.“
