why? the team ask.

In the previous post we saw how Mr X started building furniture in increments.

But for the first few weeks the team members were really confused. Was Mr X not trusting their abilities, why were they being made to standup in a circle to give a quick update on progress from yesterday, what was this ?

Mr X asked his, now, mentor Mr Y for guidance on how to resolve the awkwardeness arisng between his team and himself. Mr Y gave him an advice and Mr X went back to his team.

Mr X sat his team down for a quick meeting where he explained this concept called a Scrum which is almost like American football. In this game, the entire team is almost running alongside each other and not letting the ball being held by a person, who might be tackled down to the ground, or might lose possesion of the ball to the ooposite team. Therefore, all these team members act as equal stakeholders in the ball reaching the other touchline by keeping the ball flying between them, as they move up in the opposing team's territory. As the ball crosses the touchline the team have scored their point.

In the same fashion we all are working on parts of the furniture every day so that we are all reaching the collective goal of creating a beautiful quality piece of furniture unit. One person can't do it alone so we trust our own capability as well as of our team mates and keep moving forward as a rugby-football team would.

The team saw the point. It was not an issue of trust, in fact quite otherwise, this was more trust being placed in each of them so that they can focus on the work at hand.

That week and the next the quality as well as the output of the team went a notch upwards as the team now was playing for a common goal, and that is how Mr X started becoming successful and in return he was able to start paying his team members slightly higher.

All of the team succeeded together when they became aware of the common objective.
