I've worked with many startups, including some of my own, and I'm starting to see the patterns! I'll be honest about the things I'm not so good at, but I do think others could find plenty to learn from my past successes and mistakes.

My whole career has revolved around web development, although my short time at University was in the more generic field of Software Engineering. Having done quite a few projects both on my own as well as in teams and assigned various positions, I now feel confident enough to recommend different development methodologies in different contexts and humble enough to recognize when I meet circumstances I am too unfamiliar with to be so confident.

I started learning javascript when I was 11 years old. Back then, JQuery didn't exist, Node.js hadn't even been imagined yet, the browser wars were in full effect, there were no smart phones, and flash websites were still a big thing! Well, I never stopped learning. Javascript kept re-inventing itself and I kept reading up on the latest innovations, not only in the language itself, but in its uses, best practices, popular libraries, and "alternatives" (CoffeeScript, TypeScript). Now I consider myself quite the expert and I would love to share my knowledge and love for this ever-evolving language.

Node.js is the perfect way to leverage my mastery of Javascript outside of the browser. I've been working with Node.js A LOT these past few years. I created big complex servers, tiny one-use reusable modules, and everything in between. I've dealt with micro-services, automatic-scaling, isomorphic javascript modules, streaming interfaces, and more. Now it's time to deal with humans and help them befriend Node.js as I have.

I've been using Next.js ever since it came out and it has since become my go-to framework for all web development projects. I recommend it at every opportunity and I was thrilled to see that the progress is far from over at the last Next.js conference.

HTML & CSS have been my bread and butter my whole career. I've seen them evolve over time and I've also met their extended families: xHTML, CSS precompilers, the DOM, etc.

I have started using React everywhere since they added hooks. Now, I use React with Next.js and Node.js APIs and I feel like there is nothing I can't do.
