Toptal is an exclusive network of top freelance software developers, designers, finance experts, product managers, and project managers in the world. After going through a very strict selection process, I was able to join the network and work with clients from the US and Canada. Jobs included the whole system refactors, APIs, integrations (like Stripe) and adding new functionality/fixing bugs on existing projects.

Tatchup was a Canadian startup that lived through two phases. In the first phase, Tatchup was about "Commenting on the internet". During this phase, I developed a chrome extension (using Vue.js) and its backend (using Ruby on Rails) to allow its users to add comments to paragraphs and images on any website or to youtube videos (In that case, comments would be time-dependent). The comments were visible to other users of the extension, using a "follow" mechanism similar to twitter. This project failed to achieve a critical mass so the company pivoted to a customizable news service. For this new project, users were able to tweak parameters like search terms, subtopics, and preferred sources to receive customized news through email and slack. We reached 80k subscribers.
