ABOUT ME
Lifelong learner and Linux lover!
Lifelong learner and Linux lover!

I taught myself C when I was a freshman in high school. I just picked up a book because it sounded fun. When I discovered that Linux had so many free tools for programming when compared to Windows or macOS, I began exploring that in support of this new hobby.

Eventually, I realized that I loved using Linux because it encouraged me to figure out how hardware and software components were working in order to get the computer to do what I wanted. I've loved tinkering all my life, and between C, C++, and Linux, you can tinker with tinker with every single detail!

I helped develop and implement both the algorithms used to trade the stock market as well as systems to support the traders' analysis of the performance of these algorithms. I also helped the company streamline everything from starting our software in the morning to filing daily reports about important trades and other observations.

I took over a custom embedded project that served as a smart card reader/validator for mass transit fare collection. The little Linux computer was installed in buses, and passengers would touch their fare card to the device to pay. It was a specialty product with a small install base, which meant getting the device just right included a lot of direct conversation with the customer. The personal relationships I developed helped me understand just how much I enjoy helping people to understand technology.
