Programming is one of those disciplines where minutes spent during the design phase can save hours or days during implementation. Design got a bad reputation during the rise of agile methodologies, so just to be clear, I'm not talking about user interface design or feature design here. I mean design in the sense of figuring out the invariants in your problem, planning the data shapes and signatures of your functions, and the interfaces of your objects and network endpoints.

I've spent more time programming in JavaScript than any other language. I've written web backends, frontends and one desktop app in electron. I really enjoy helping folks understand the fundamental concepts in the language (closures, prototypes) and the runtime (event loops, callbacks). And can also help you get a handle on the newer features in es6. I can also be helpful if you're planning a new project and need to make some architectural decisions regarding how to integrate different modules from the ecosystem.

I've written a lot of shell to automate software builds and manage the installed software across clusters of machines. Happy to answer questions about the underlying Unix process model (standard io, environment variables, process trees etc).

I can help you think through your data model and put together a schema for your application.

I worked on Rails apps for many years and continue to use Ruby as a go-to general purpose scripting language
