How and why I built Juglot Skardu Highway (164KM)

About me

Being a Civil Engineer, after graduation I pursued Junior Planning Engineer job and spend much time on Project initiation to project completion so that I could learn basic management of project life cycle. that job gave me lot of enthusiasm for project management role. so I set my objectives for PM goal, on first priority I start learning project Management tools Like Primavera P6 & Ms Projects as well as go through many project management books like PMBOK 5th edition, construction management, resources management and Project Cycle I to IV. these books and software tools give me much confident for project planning and management, once again I start my career as a planning engineer in Infrastructure project I scheduled Rs, 12 billion cost Bus Rapid Transit Project in Pakistan oldest city Peshawar which was funded by Asian development Bank. This project give me much confident in my career. after that I joined FWO contractor as a Planning Manager for 164 KM Highway this project was based to near K2 Mount in Karakorum elevation of the route was 6500 ft above the sea level. project timeline was 2 year against 164 km Highway in Rs. 32 billion budget. we completed this project on defined time and cost. I learn a lot form that challenging project. If we challenge ourselves for big goal then definitely that challenge will polish you for such goal.
For good project management one have to extensive knowledge and experiences of project management and its tool like Primavera P6,
Right Now, I am working in most prestigious international organization IFAD our organization developing Infrastructure and housing Societies in remote areas like African and south Asian developing countries, My responsibility in program are Project Planning, Cost Estimation, Scheduling, Monitoring and Execute Project.
I can develop Project Execution Plan by using Primavera P6, These are the following data which is mandatory for Professional Project Management.

The problem I wanted to solve

This Project wasnt divided in pakages, my responsibilty was to plan a project in detail WBS and control it according to execution.

What is Juglot Skardu Highway (164KM)?

Details Planning and Scheduling of heavy construction projects budgeted cost was Rs. 32 Billions against 164 km Highway in 2.5 years deadline. I developed WBS for every single RD separately so that every sector managers can handle project in detail analysis. All resources Materials, labor and non-labours allocated as per scope of WBS.
To cost controlling monthly plan were introduced to every PM and tracking progress while comparing planned work of baseline.
Due to detail planning and active monitoring systems this project is went much better than expected.

Tech stack

I choose Oracle Primavera P6 Cloud Base Software to Plan and Monitor all resources.

The process of building Juglot Skardu Highway (164KM)

Challenges I faced

It was too hard to Monitor actual Progress because our some team member's wasnt familiar with P6. but with the passage of time they groom thierself for P6.

Key learnings

This project give me much confident in my career. after that I joined FWO contractor as a Planning Manager for 164 KM Highway this project was based to near K2 Mount in Karakorum elevation of the route was 6500 ft above the sea level. project timeline was 2 year against 164 km Highway in Rs. 32 billion budget. we completed this project on defined time and cost. Tips and advice

In construction industry its hard to apply advance techonlogy but one should work with consistency and train your Lower management and give time them, then definitly they will adopt this P6 technology and your project will execute in timely.
