ABOUT ME
Data Scientist and Python/R Developer
Data Scientist and Python/R Developer

Machine Learning Engineer & Data Scientist. Advanced user of the Python libraries for data processing, predictive models, and visualization. AWS ML Specialty Certified. Passionate about elegant code, automation, and model explainability. And recently (past year), most interested and active in NLP and LLM applications, especially:

* custom document parsing/informatoin extraction,

* neural/hybrid search and

* Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) systems (e.g. chatbots informed by neural/hybrid search to reduce hallucination) on custom/private document sets.

Highly adept at optimizing speed/performance of python data science workloads via just-in-time compilation strategies (numba, pypy, or even sometimes a rewrite in Julia), or horizontal scaling to distributed compute on cloud infrastructure. Though honestly that step is needed less frequently than most clients seem to expect; usually optimizing for code clarity, safety, and development iteration speed proves more valuable in my experience.

Look forward to hearing from you if you have something that I'd find interesting and fun to work on.

I use Python for working with data. I've done web scraping (main libraries I use: Selenium and BeautifulSoup, occasionally Requests), data wrangling (numpy/Pandas), visualization (Pandas.plot() for something quick, Matplotlib/Seaborn for something more custom), and predictive modeling (Scikit-learn for software architecture / pipelining, XGBoost & LightGBM for ensemble tree-based predictors, Keras for neural-networks based predictors).

I use Python and r to write software that predicts or classifies variables of interest from data. Often these projects include a large component of feature generation from a raw signal. I place a strong emphasis on charts for visualizing results, including visualizing which parts of the dataset the model performs well on, and where the errors come from.

SQL is a great standard for working with data, and I often fall back to using built-in SQL capabilities whether I'm working in SAS, Python, PySpark, or any other language. As far SQL databases go, my favorite to work with is Postgres.

I used MongoDB for a personal project to store a moderate amount of data for free on the cloud so I could access it easily from a python application via API calls. I found it pretty intuitive.
