CES 2025 Review
It is the 10th of January in the year 2025, and the location is Las Vegas. Over 141,000 people from all over the world visited the Consumer Electronics Show 2025 (CES 2025), which is widely considered to be the most important technology event in the world. More than 4500 exhibitors, including 1400 startups, and more than 6000 media attendees were present at the Consumer Electronics Show which displays the most recent innovations and technological trends that are tackling global concerns and defining the future. Let’s have a look at some of the major announcements
What’s New at CES 2025
TV technology. TVs were big news at CES this year, with many different manufacturers showing off their wares. LG’s 4G OLED device established a new level of contrast and colour and demonstrated a huge step forward in everyday displays, while HiSense showed off their new 116-inch TriChroma LED TV with a depth of colour gamut never seen before on an LED-based system. Hisense claims this TV can do 10,000 nits – one nit is equal to one candela or candlepower per square meter (1cd/m2) – and that is a new standard for everyday TV technology.
Samsung, of course, demonstrated their new AI-powered TV range which featured AI-augmented sound and vision systems and a smart click-to-search feature which means that the TV is aware of the content being shown. Want to know what other TV shows that actor has been in? Just ask the TV and you’ll get a breakdown of that actor’s career. In addition, you can search for just about anything you want – including internet searches – by voice control.
Samsung also demonstrated their latest QN990F model with patented anti-glare technology for an exquisite viewing experience. The QN990F has 8K resolution and the anti-glare surface doesn’t detract from the contrast levels and colour reproduction as much as similar TVs.
TCL also unveiled what it described as its ‘premium entry-level’ TV – the QM6K – with the potential to pre-order this at the actual show. This new TV has the brightness, contrast, and colour depth of a much more expensive model from the major TV manufacturers, but at a considerably cheaper price. TCL are an up-and-coming manufacturer and hope that potential buyers seeing the impressive display would put in an order there and then.
While still only a concept, but one that we saw working at CES2025, the Samsung stretchable Micro LED display wowed all who experienced it. This technology quite literally allows things on the screen – such as an inbound shark or a spooky Japanese ghost – to push out of the display, taking 3D several levels higher.
Computing. Many companies choose events such as CES to showcase their latest wares and it’s always a great place to find real products that are going to be hitting the market in the next few months. One of the main attractions was the Lenovo rolling screen, which can be pulled up to almost double the effective area of the display. What looks like an ordinary 14-inch laptop, can at the press of a button, expand the screen upwards to become a mammoth 16.7-inch vertical display. This gives you a lot more work space since you can stack two windows on top of each other, enjoy a very long spreadsheet, or use the additional space to add other widgets.
The Dell Alienware 4K monitor was promised before the show and didn’t disappoint when it was demonstrated. The new 27 4K QD-OLED Gaming Monitor combines peak QD-OLED performance with amazing 4K resolution, all in a streamlined 27-inch frame. Thanks to a new ultra-precise production process, the flagship monitor achieves an amazing pixel density of 166 PPI (pixels per inch), setting a new bar for clarity in a QD-OLED gaming display.
However, the display is notable for much more than simply pixel clarity. It also has a scorching 240Hz refresh rate, giving it an excellent pick for people who value fluid animation and quick gaming. Furthermore, superior colour accuracy, an infinite contrast ratio, and Dolby Vision HDR certification ensure that games and media are crisp, responsive, and beautifully brilliant. We expect this to hit the stores around March this year.
Audio. While the JBL Tour One M2 was great, the Tour One M3 adds a much-appreciated new Smart Tx—a little device the size of a matchbox— which allows the headphones to connect wirelessly to devices that support Auracast. That’s a kind of Bluetooth connection that doesn’t require pairing and allows an unlimited number of devices to listen simultaneously—a feature that isn’t available with regular Bluetooth—and improves upon the features we loved on the older device.
In addition to a more noise-blocking design and new earcup materials, the M3’s adaptive active noise cancellation is far better, the battery life is longer – 70 hours usage instead of 50 – and the quick-charge feature is much faster too. To make it even better, an equaliser, caller ID, music controls, and the ability to start and stop Auracast audio broadcasting are all accessible through the touchscreen interface of the Smart Tx transmitter.
Devices. CES is known for its love of devices and this year was no exception. Among the eye-catching products on display, there were:
Halliday Smart glasses. With the success of the Ray-Ban Meta glasses, wearable tech of this nature is big business, with plenty of companies cashing in. The Halliday glasses offer all of the standard features that you would expect, but also have an impressive real-time translation app that really works. With an in-built display that shows the translation, you will always be aware of what a foreign speaker is saying to you. Of course, replying is quite another issue.
Hover X1 Pro and Pro Max. Personal drones have been getting much better of late and the launch of the latest Hover devices at only $500 (£469) is going to make these much more prominent. Beloved of Social Media types and Influencers, these small drones can be made to follow you and do plenty of other tricks to enhance captured video footage for online posting. The original Hover was a good device, but the Pro and Pro Max versions take personal drones to a new level. They not only bring 4K and 8K resolution but they have a new controller system with a centre beacon module that makes the drone follow objects better, and their flying speed is greatly enhanced, so they can keep up with sports like cycling or skiing.
Razer Project Ava. Gamers love to get feedback on how well they are playing and thanks to a new Ava system from Razer, they can now not only get that feedback but also advise on playing better and strategy in major games – thanks to AI. Ava will monitor how you play different games and talk to you about strategy through your speakers or headset. She will give comments on how you’re doing and suggest methods to help you with challenges. At CES, Razer demonstrated Ava helping a player during a practice match of the game League of Legends. Ava observed the test player’s different moves, giving reports on what was happening in the game and suggesting what to do based on the current situation in the multiplayer action-strategy game.
Roulistic Z1 Multi Gym. With exercise on many people’s minds in the new year, we were intrigued to see the Vesta Fitness Roulistic Z1 being demoed at CES 2025. The machine looks like a Pilates reformer, but you can detach the sliding part to connect a triceps rope, a handle, a long bar, and other tools. This lets you do strength workouts like curls or rowing. The two bent handles at the top of the machine can help you do supported push-ups or serve as support for workouts like mountain climbers and planks. Coming in at around $2000, it’s a bit more expensive than the Pilates Reformer devices that it is based on, and offers not much difference in terms of exercise, but may have a smaller footprint and will be easier to install and move around.
Swippitt Power charger. Bored with waiting for your phone to charge up? Fear not because tech company Swippitt has developed a smart hub that can charge your phone in just two seconds!!!! To clarify, the Swippitt Hub is actually a recharge station with a series of bespoke batteries inside and under charge. Your phone is placed in a special case – called a Link – which holds one of the bespoke batteries and connects with your phone’s own battery.
When you place the Link in the Hub, a new, fully charged battery is inserted in the Link, effectively giving your encased phone 100% power in the two seconds that it takes to swap the batteries in the Hub. The swapped-out battery is then left to recharge in the Hub for future use. With the Hub holding five batteries, you can be sure of a fast recharge all of the time. Of course, it does mean that you have to have your phone encased in the standard Swippitt cases all of the time, but as the system grows, these will become more fashionable.
Hypershell Carbon X Exoskeleton. Running up that hill has just become a whole lot easier, thanks to the Hypershell Exoskeleton. Combining modern robotics, ergonomics, and artificial intelligence into a small package would let users travel farther and appreciate the beauty of the surroundings. It boasts longevity, senseless fitting, and strong movement assistance, and the bespoke M-One exoskeleton motor technology can smoothly produce an assistance power up to 1HP to minimise the user’s physical effort. Its radical and ultra-light ergonomic design guarantees an unmatched degree of comfort. To offer exact help, its AI MotionEngine system recognises motions and changes among ten different aid modes in real time.
Ultraloq Bolt Mission Smart Lock. One of the best smart door locks that we have seen in a long time, the AI-powered Ultraloq Bolt Mission lock is intelligent enough to detect whether a person is on the inside or outside of the door. The Ultraloq Bolt Mission may be unlocked using both UWB and NFC-enabled smartphones. This lets you open your door with a simple tap on your compatible smartphone or wristwatch. It is originally compatible with Android phones, but U-Tec, the firm behind Ultraloq, intends to enable Apple Home Key. In addition to the UWB and NFC unlocking methods, the Ultraloq Bolt Mission has a keypad for entering a keycode and a slot for a physical key too.
Weird. Being a ground-breaking technology show, you would expect CES to have its share of utter weirdness, and this year wasn’t an exception. Here’s a breakdown of some of the weirdest products that earned show space.
Blowing cat. Tea, coffee or soup too hot? Just fit the Nékojita FuFu blowing cat to the side of your receptacle and it will emulate a gentle blow to cool your hot liquids. Pointless but engaging, I really want one.
Temperature controlled Gaming Seat. Razer hit the spot with their Project Ava, but may have missed the mark with the new gaming chair that can adjust your butt temperature according to your gaming needs. Got a bit too hot? The Project Arielle chair will cool you down, and if the temperature gets a bit frosty, it will warm you up. Pointless, but pleasant.
Robo Cleaner with an Arm. Robotic vacuums are far from new, but when they have a hidden arm that comes out when a sock is in the way, they become something different. The Roborock Saros Z70’s has such a feature and is guaranteed to remove obstacles from its path with an integral robot arm. It’s one of those devices that you never knew that you needed until you got it.
Kirin Electric Salt Spoon. Like more salt than is good for you? The Kirin Electric Salt Spoon will give you the sensation of having more salt in your food without actually having to dose up on the blood-pressure inducing substance. The Kirin spoon transmits electrical currents from the spoon to your tongue, simulating the sensation of salty. Rest assured, you are not alone in believing that electricity and tongues often go together, but fortunately, it is a modest electric current and unlikely to give you a shock.
Organised by the Consumer Technology Association, CES has grown to become the largest and most influential technology show of the year, and the place for tomorrow’s technology to see the light of day. Kinsey Fabrizio, President, CTA, said of the show “From groundbreaking innovations that improve lives to transformative ideas that redefine industries, CES is a celebration of the art of the possible, showcasing how technology enriches our world and inspires a brighter future for all. The evolution of CES has surged at this year’s show, where creativity, connectivity, and innovation inspire with visionary keynotes, thought-provoking conference sessions, and mind-blowing exhibits.”
CES 2025 has delivered innovation by the spade-load and based on the tech that we have seen, then 2025 is going to be a bumper year for technology in many different fields. Now we at Unity Developers can’t wait for CES 2026.
