I am currently working as an Associate Software Engineer working primarily with Ruby on Rails, Resque, Redis, Postgres, and HAML. I have been there since October of 2017. I graduated from The Firehose Project (A Ruby on Rails Bootcamp) in October of 2015. I always try to incorporate best practices while developing and I hope to pass that onto my students.

As a Rails developer, a strong understanding of the Ruby language is necessary. In order to solve more complex problems, such as looking through Redis hashes, for example, a fundamental understanding of data types and the Ruby language is essential.

One of the best parts about Ruby is ActiveRecord. As a Rails developer, I have to use ActiveRecord daily in order to scope queries or just searching for a particular object inside of a db.

Your text editor is one of the most important tools in a developer's toolbox. Since I have started using vim my development speeds have increased and I am very happy with the customizability and how after a short amount of time it becomes very intuitive.

Version control is important and I feel a developer should have a good grasp on it. As a full time developer I am using git all day, mistakes happen, and you have to know how to resolve these mistakes easily without blowing up the current project you are working on.
