We needed an integration between 6 different vendor applications, as well as in house systems, to keep things in sync when adding accounts or deals. This also needed to have guaranteed delivery between them. We utilized JMS Message queues (ActiveMQ) to ensure these messages would be delivered with capabilities to self-heal in case things were to go wrong (bad data, etc). This also drove the requirement to make each step of our workflows Idempotent as well.

(that is a regulatory finance term) - This is essentially the amount of money the firm needs to set aside in case that investment was to go under. We needed to integrate all the firm’s inventories from 4 different vendor applications together and create a single format. It then created files for another program to process it and giving the business an automated way to calculate that haircut number. This also includes a much better algorithm to take advantage of all the laws and no action letters that provide relief to that amount. With this effort, we were able to save the firm approximately $80 Million that would have otherwise been frozen! On top of that, it also saved approx. 50 – 60 hours of manual calculation each month.
