Workout routine for busy Developers 💪🧑💻
It's time to talk about the elephant in the room, you know it, I know it, your mom knows it! - Working Out.
I have never really enjoyed working out and I always felt forced to do it. Sometimes I would listen to an audiobook "Can't hurt me - David Goggins" and that will really motivate me to work out, but I could never turn it into a long term habit because of the lack of the bigger "why".
Until a few weeks ago, I came across Hybrid Calisthenics's youtube channel.
Calisthenics
It's not the first time I came across Calisthenics. What's nice about Calisthenics, is that right now during the covid-19 pandemic, a lot of gyms are closed and also you can save yourself some money while just working out at home.
Before I used Nike Training Club app for a while and I quite enjoyed it! The only problem was that some workouts were quite hard and would take more than 30 minutes, which sometimes after a hard day at work will be hard to commit to.
Usually, I would be able to commit to maybe 2 weeks of intense workout, but after that, I would lose track and give up.
That was until I watched Hampton's video:
I had an "AHA" moment when I realized that indeed, keeping a workout more than 15 minutes, in most of the cases makes it too hard to commit to, while keeping it short about 10 - 15 minutes makes it feel a lot easier and not that big of a deal!
Also, the goal should be to make working out part of your routine in such a way that you can stick with it for the years to come, not only for a month or two until you get fit or you give up because you don't.
Workout Routine
Next, I decided to have a look at Hampton's workout routine. And, again, it struck me with its simplicity - just one exercise per day? 1 Exercise for 10 min seems a lot more achievable now!
What's nice about his routine, is that you can find an exercise that fits your level so it's not too easy and at the same time is not too hard!
And no, this is not an ad for Hampton, I just really like his content!
After a few hours of planning, I came up with a workout routine that fits my level and is yet simple so as not to overwhelm myself.
Conclusion
At the moment I am one week into it and I feel that this routine is finally something I can stick to.
