I was a principal developer of what is now known as PSPDFKit Instant – a self-hosted service for real-time syncing of annotations between PDF files. It also supports offline editing and is able to catch up to missed changes once the client goes back online.
While working on that project, I got first-hand experience with solving many kinds of problems related to concurrency and distributed consensus. I learned about transaction isolation levels in PostgreSQL and how to keep Elixir code readable and maintainable in the long term.
