The Stuff That (Web) Streams Are Made Of

This talk is part of the Remote Engineering Global Job Fair. Signing up for this event will give you access to all the talks on the agenda, including the job fair.

When Chrome developer Jake Archibald called 2016 “the year of streams”, his prediction may have been premature.

With the release of Node.js 18 last year, there is now a unified Web Stream API across all JS platforms, so Jake’s prediction may finally be coming true.

The Web Stream API puts a lot of power in an engineer's hands, making it easy to read and transform large datasets, process video files on the fly, improve page performance, and much much more.

In this session, Devon will:

  • Give you a brief history of streaming on the web
  • Introduce you to the Web Streams API
  • Show you some practical applications for web streams
  • Wrap it up with a live code demo to show how to build an end-to-end streaming solution using Node.js
